When two columns set to the widths 25% and 75% are floated left, Internet Explorer 6 and 7 on Windows XP can drop the second column below the first, even though there's room to fit it on screen. This happens on and off as the browser window is gradually narrowed. (I used a test screen of 1,280 pixels wide.) So sometimes the column fits, sometimes it drops down.
If 24% and 76% widths are used, the columns remain joined until the screen drops below a certain width.
In Firefox and Opera, the columns stay joined, narrowing to fit the screen, even when the text overlaps.
